When you arrive in Solothurn, we recommend parking your car in one of our three multi-storey car parks at Baseltor, Bieltor or Berntor.
Driving through Solothurn’s old town is only permitted for residents, shuttle buses and hotel guests. The old town is pedestrianised from 11:30 am onwards, with a permit required to access the town centre by car. -
In various Solothurn restaurants and shops with the ‘nette Toilette’ sticker, visitors to the town of Solothurn are allowed to use the toilet without having to purchase anything.

On foot: from the centre of Solothurn to the entrance of the gorge (approx. 25 minutes). Solothurn town map
By bus: take bus no. 4 towards Rüttenen (get off at ‘St. Niklaus’). -
The market is held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 8 am to 12 pm. If a public holiday falls on a Wednesday, the market is cancelled.

Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 6:30 pm; only the left door is open. St. Ursus Cathedral cannot be visited during services.

Guided tours of the old town take place regularly on different days of the week. Book your tour online.

By train: take the Solothurn-Niederbipp railway line (Bipperlisi) in the direction of Langenthal, get off at ‘Feldbrunnen’; 15-minute walk to the castle from there.
By bus: take bus no. 4 towards Rüttenen, get off at ‘St. Niklaus’ SO; 10-minute walk to the castle from there (via St. Niklaus church).
By post bus: take bus no. 1219 towards Balm b. Günsberg, get off at ‘Feldbrunnen’ train station; 15-minute walk to the castle from there.

By train or car to Oberdorf SO train station:
From Solothurn main train station (Hauptbahnhof) to Oberdorf SO train station with the Weissenstein Express in the direction of Moutier.
From Moutier train station to Oberdorf SO station with the Weissenstein Express in the direction of Solothurn.
By car: A5 exit Solothurn West, direction Langendorf/Oberdorf; do note the parking charges.
Then, continue the journey on the Weissenstein cable car. Enjoy a 10-minute ride on the Weissenstein cable car and the unique view of the town of Solothurn and the Swiss Plateau.
