Natural History Museum

The Solothurn Natural History Museum encourages interest, enthusiasm, understanding and a love of nature. It presents animals, plants, rocks and fossils from the Solothurn region. Among its unique items are the 150 million-year-old turtle fossils found in the city’s quarries, the beautiful starfish from the Weissenstein and the famous dinosaur tracks from Lommiswil. All of the animals and objects displayed in the open can be touched. There are a variety of models on display that can be played and experimented with, allowing visitors to discover the natural world and grasp it in the most literal sense.

The Natural History Museum offers guided tours for groups on request. The museum is also open to school classes and groups in the morning, subject to prior notification.

The Adventures of Dr Bakteribus
The museum detective story The Adventures of Dr Bakteribus & Rockyis great fun for all the family. Rocky the racoon has left his glasses somewhere in the museum, but he can’t remember where. Visitors can find them with the help of individual animals in the museum. To do so, children will need to solve tricky riddles and write down the answers.

Digital scavenger hunt to the city nature
Go on a digital scavenger hunt through the city of Solothurn together with family or friends. Where do the many city pigeons sleep and who lives in the smallest hotel in the city? On this exciting tour of about 90 minutes, traces are inspected, puzzles are puzzled over, exchanged, searched for and hopefully found with a lot of fun. The digital scavenger hunt is played with the help of the app "Actionbound" on your own smartphone/tablet.

The scavenger hunt is basically wheelchair and stroller accessible. Short detours for stairs are described in each case.
